Surviving A Buffet
This is a much delayed post since I was supposed to write this last November. I just completely forgot about it until I decided to clean up my picture files. There I discovered the pics of our anniversary lunch…our pig out session.
Luckily for us, we were given 2 gift certificates to the Palm Court Cafe of the Diamond Hotel. Actually, we still have several gc’s lying around somewhere. I love the perks of having a lawyer for a husband. We agreed that we would use it for our anniversary and that’s exactly what we did.
We brought the kids with us and they got to eat for free. Things were really looking up for us and I couldn’t imagine anything going wrong. Fortunately, nothing did…except for the brief rainshower that didn’t bother us since we were indoors anyway.
So, faced with a formidable challenge (eating buffet style is a challenge, right), I came ready. I barely had breakfast and was hungry by the time we got there.
Honestly, there’s nothing really different about this buffet. The same can be said about all the other buffets in all the hotels here in Manila. The spread is similar. Salad station, appetizers, bread, main course, grill station, roast station, sushi and dimsum, dessert. Pretty much the same in all the buffets. What sets this one apart is taste. I’ve always loved the food here at Diamond Hotel, even when we had to pay for what we ate.
Anyway, to get back to the challenge. How did I manage? I ate in small portions. When I say small, I mean around 2 bites of everything. With all that food, 2 bites of all is a lot but better than having heaping servings that you can’t finish.
So here’s how I demolished our anniversary lunch…
Plate No. 1 (appetizers)
Plate No. 2 (main course)
Plate No. 3 (main course)
Plate No. 4 (main course)
Plate No. 5 (dessert)
Plate No. 6 (dessert)
Whew!! That was really very tiring. About the food….well, on a scale of 1 to 10, maybe an 8. I especially liked the appetizers. I happen to be a sucker for smoked salmon and theirs was yummy. I’ve had fishy tasting smoked salmon but this wan’t at all. I also liked the humungous prawns. I had them cook it with garlic and a little chili and it was perfect.
Dessert was ok. Nothing great, though.
So there, thats how you survive a buffet. Eat a little of everything. Pretty much what we should do on a day to day basis, right.
