LaPis : Tomato

One of my (and my husband’s) favorite el cheapo date places is this middle eastern restaurant a few minutes from our place. From the looks of it, the place also happens to be a favorite of many others as we haven’t had the chance to have the place all to ourselves yet. On almost every single evening, they’re packed with a few diners always waiting for a table.

My taste for middle eastern cuisine really hasn’t evolved much, actually. I’m still playing it safe on this. My faves would be kebabs, pitas and hummus, and shawarmas. Sometimes I will venture and try some falafel and baba ghanoush but not often.

This dish in the pic is what I call, Hubad na Shawarma or “Shawarma on a Plate”. The ingredients are beef, onions, cucumber, and TOMATO. It is served with warm pita bread or rice. Personally, I eat it as is without the cucumbers. I always ask for an extra grilled tomato to go with it. Then I smoosh everything with tons of garlic sauce and its heaven all the way. Thing is, after a helping of this, you have to have extra strength breath mints because much as it tastes like heaven, your breath will end up smelling like hell afterwards.

Makes me miss eating shawarma. And yes, having breath mints is always handy whenever this food is eaten.

My tomato dish for LaPis is served HERE. Happy weekends!

Looks very yummy :) Funny thing is that I’ve never seen a dish like that here in the Middle East…hehehe! Filipino inventiveness may be at work here… ;) And yes, grilled tomatoes with shawarma and kebabs are tops for me too!

@Julie : sa may West Ave. ito, sis. Mr. Kabab. There’s a branch na rin sa Ayala Technohub sa Commonwealth so parehong malapit lang sa atin :)

@Foodiejenn : Di ba, twin B (as in Bad Breath) whenever you eat shawarma. I think its the onions and the garlic sauce to blame. Never mind, sarap naman :)

@Pinky : Its super yummy. I can finish off an entire plate by myself, to be honest. Then I wash it down with an ice cold can of Coke…the best :P

@luna miranda : not the best date food, unless your date is completely enamored of you and will not mind the shawarma slash garlic sauce infused goodnight kiss…hehehe :D
