Garlic Chicken & Tofu Steak

I first tasted this dish at a Japanese fastfood joint and I absolutely loved it.  It was served in a bento box with some sauteed bean sprouts and a lot of rice.  Their version was actually swimming in buttery goodness which I cut down at home.  Well, just a little.

Here’s the recipe….

  • 1/2 kilo chicken breast fillet (cut into 2 inch cubes)
  • 1 block firm Japanes tofu (cut into 1 inch cubes)
  • 2 tsps. Kikkoman soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 cups of oil for deep frying
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • flour for dredging
  • 10 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 2 tsps. Knorr seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

In a bowl, combine the Kikkoman soy sauce and the pepper.  Marinate the chicken in the mixture for 20-minutes.

In a large skillet, heat the 2 cups of oil.  Fry the tofu until golden brown.  Dredge the chicken in flour and fry until golden brown.  Set aside.

In a separate skillet, heat 2 Tbsps. of the oil.  Add the butter.  Saute the garlic until slightly golden.  Add the remainder of the marinade, Knorr seasoning, and the pepper.  Add 2 Tbsp. of water.  Add the chicken and the tofu and toss until well coated.

Makes 4 servings.
